Miraculous Message Reading, Sealed Miracle 4

With this trick you will have one of the most wonderful and mysterious effects of mental magic. Deftly performed, this trick – one of my very first creations – will bring you great success. Since this effect does not require any difficult manipulation, you can fully concentrate on the presentation. And that is the only thing you have to do for complete success.

The effect is not new and is well known in the magic world. It deals with a so-called "note reading", in which the texts of notes written by members of the audience and sealed in envelopes are telepathically read by mind readers. Many methods are known – some of them, unfortunately, all too well. First of all, there is the "one before" method, in which the mind reader knows the content of the envelope in advance because the text was either written by an assistant planted in the audience or was slipped into the pack by the mind reader himself. Or, the board on which the spectator writes is prepared so that a copy of the writing can secretly be read by the mind reader. In other methods the envelopes are simply switched, or are made transparent with chemicals such as alcohol, or are irradiated. We could go on and on, telling you all the different methods.

But unfortunately, each variation of this trick has the same disadvantage, which is that it cannot be performed under test conditions. None of these methods were good enough for Astor, so he created his own method which perplexed even the most expert magicians. Up until now, this method has been a carefully guarded professional secret, but is now being offered to the magician community in this form for the first time, minutely explained in manuscript form.

No aids or prepared articles are used. The mind reader only needs a pocket knife, normal small cards, and envelopes – nothing else! They are so completely free of preparation that they can even be brought by the audience themselves! No chemicals are used, nor are the envelopes irradiated or made transparent in any way. No one planted in the audience, no prepared boards or any other aids!

And if that's not enough, please read this: With this Original Astor Method you can even perform this trick under test conditions. That means you need NO preparation – you don't even have to bring your own envelopes! You don't have to know anyone in the audience. You don't even have to touch the envelopes first. They can be brought by someone else and handed out to the audience without your handling them in advance. Every participant can write whatever he or she wants, without being influenced at all!
