A completely inexplicable mental effect. Is it real telepathy? It remains a mystery.
What happens?
The medium (who could be your partner) is blindfolded by members of the audience in the following manner: First, two cotton-wool balls are put over his or her eyes and taped crosswise with sticking plaster. Then the eyes are further firmly blindfolded with a piece of cloth, and a second, large cloth is placed over the head. It is not a trick blindfold! The medium really can't see anything!
After this is done, two members (any!) of the audience lead the medium out of the hall and make sure that he or she is completely unaware of the goings-on in the hall.
You now hand somebody in the audience a simple wooden box and six silk scarves of different colours and tell him or her to choose a scarf, put it into the box, padlock the box and put the other scarves into his/her pocket. You now take a seat in the auditorium and sit motionless. You may also be led out of the hall, so as to avoid any contact with the medium at all. Brought back into the hall, the medium takes the box in his or her hand and immediately tells which scarf is locked in it!
An important point: Instead of silk scarves, it may be any objects at all, such as playing cards, dice of different colours, different coins borrowed from audience members, etc.! Also, the number of objects is not limited to six, but can even be higher.
Before you decide if you want to learn and perform this miracle, please bear in mind the following:
Everything is done by the audience. The audience is at perfect liberty to choose, and this choice is not influenced in any way! Neither the box nor the scarves nor the padlock are prepared! No audible, visible, or positional signals are given! The box is not secretly opened. There are no people in the know, nor are there any assistants! The mystery is inexplicable! Astor himself performed this trick hundreds of times, even before an expert audience. So far, no one has been able to find the solution to this mystery!
What is of particular importance to you: It really is child's play. A three-year-old could perform it! Since there is nothing to learn or to practise, you can fully concentrate on the presentation. No preparations! Once you know the secret, you can perform this gem of magic anytime and anywhere!
Since no prepared objects are used, we only deliver a booklet. You can get your own normal wooden or metal box, as well as the other items used during the performance.
